Warner Bros. Pictures has released a new video for the Mortal Kombat movie titled “Meet the Kast.” As the name indicates, in the almost three and a half minutes of the footage, the diverse casting of characters, actors and actresses that appear in the film is presented, as well as unpublished scenes and combats collected from the original material, some of them before to go through the post-production workshop.
The video offers an unpublished look at scenes and clashes of characters that have been seen less in previous Mortal Kombat full movie such as Kabal, Mileena and Reptile. The footage is accompanied by comments from the director, scriptwriters and actors. Josh Lawson (who plays Kano) promises there will be fewer CG (computer-made) scenes than might appear.
The film’s distributor says “the diverse international cast reflects the global nature of the [Mortal Kombat] brand, with talents spanning the world of film, television and martial arts.” Thus, we will see personalities such as Lewis Tan (Cole Young), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Josh Lawson (Kano), Tadanobu Asano (Lord Raiden), Mehcad Brooks (Jackson “Jax” Brdiges), Ludi Din (Liu Kang), Chin Han (Shang Tsung), Joe Taslim (Sub-Zero), Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion), Max Huang (Kung Lao), Sisi Stringer (Mileena), Matilda Kimber (Emily Young) and Laura Brent (Allison Young).
The film will hit theaters in Spain on April 16. In the United States, it will premiere a few days later, on April 23, with a simultaneous launch on HBO Max, a platform on which it will remain for 31 days. The film is directed by Simon McQuoid, who comes from the world of advertising; with a script by Greg Russo and Dave Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984); and a story developed by Oren Uziel (Mortal Kombat: Rebirth) and Greg Russo.
